In the Presence of God By Hugo Jon Sayles
World Premiere Shadow Theatre Company Original
A newly orphaned child finds that he has nothing. A woman's image of herself is breaking her heart. A man lay dying of a heart attack. A woman's mind...in a coma. A man talks to a little boy...in his dreams. Five stories. Five spiritual journeys of words, poetry & Faith. There are moments in life where we are overwhelmed, full of despair and we feel so utterly alone. We are not. There is a presence that resonates in the heart and on the soul. A presence that tells us we are not alone. It can be ignored or welcomed with renewed faith. The gifts are here; we simply do not recognize them. Full minds have no time to perceive the presence that lives in our hearts. Time envelops a small crease called a life-time. A life-time of a hundred years is but a blinking of the eye of God.
The Sisters, Sweetwater
By Hugo Jon Sayles
February 16 - March 11, 2012*
World Premiere Shadow Theatre Company Original
How do we transcend the pain of horrendous circumstance? It's 1928 and the heart-stung, yet joyful power of the blues tints this stark drama with pure life. It is the epic story of two sisters: Chelsea, the wild child and Oleta, the church girl; born in a bordello in Silverton, Colorado. Desperately, they seek to exact their future; to force happiness to be. Thus, it eludes them, haunts them, and tantalizes them in decisions rooted in alleviating pain. Sometimes we can lead life, but sometimes we must just follow.
The original play by Shadow Theatre Company's Artistic Director was a 2002 finalist for The Playwrights' Center Emerging Writers Jerome Fellowship.
